Well, if there’s one thing I’m good at it’s disappearing at times and randomly reappearing. So, I havn’t posted in a long time (are there readers? I don’t think so, thankfully that means blogging in my boxers is no problem). What have I been up to, hmmm?
Tabletop gaming. Yup, that non-technological form of gaming that can usually be seen in older movies. Of course I’m not referring to the traditional American tabletop gaming (monopoly, risk, etc.) but to Warhammer. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my short time away from video games, it’s that video games still have a ways to go. I’ve been playing Warhammer Fantasy, Necromunda and Dark Heresy (the Warhammer 40k RPG), here’s my thoughts:
Warhammer Fantasy: The good ol’ Warhammer wargame. Many armies of various makes (in an earlier post I made about a strategy game idea, the armies I came up with resemble quite a few of these, though I knew it not at the time) and various strategies. This is really THE strategy game as the players utilize some very real military tactics (and some generals could only wish) to wage war. With the customization that can be done to your units, the rules and the terrain – there’s always something new.
Necromunda – This is a specialized game from the 40k universe. Using small gangs in hive cities (giant metropolises that tower into the sky) players battle each other with pretty in-depth rules, their members gain XP and items and such. Lots of fun, cheap to get into, and usually pretty quick to play.
Dark Heresy – This is an RPG somewhat similar to D&D, though I feel it is more in-depth and open-ended. If your idea of an RPG is Final Fantasy or Diablo – check this out and learn something. If you play D&D check it out too, it’s a wonderful RPG that you should be able to pick up quickly.
Ok, so that sums up my time away. No more video games from me? Of course not, I still play Eve Online – and always will, as far as I’m concerned. Speaking of Eve the events of yesterday were quite exciting. War is coming! (finally!) And past plans of wanting to be a game designer? Well, those are likely dead until video gaming can catch up to tabletop (which it won’t). Thus I would like to work in the tabletop games industry if at all possible, gonna have to come up with some game designs for it.
